Dr. Shirly Bahar teaches at Columbia University’s School of Visual Arts. Shirly’s writing and curatorial work explores the relationships between representation, politics, and the body, focusing on the Middle East. Shirly is the co-editor of the book series, Global South Perspectives in Jewish Studies, at Wayne State University Press. Shirly’s first book, Documentary Cinema in Israel-Palestine: Performance, the Body, the Home came out in July 2021. Shirly organizes with the JVP-BIJOCSM Network. As a cultural organizer, Shirly has been curating numerous art shows, public programs, film series, and community gatherings in NYC and across the US since 2013.
