Richard Boyd Barrett is a founding member of People Before Profit, elected as a TD for Dún Laoghaire first in 2011 and then three times since.

He is also a founding member and the President of the Irish Anti-War Movement, and both inside and outside the Dáil, he has been centrally involved in grassroots campaigning on housing, the cost of living, Palestine solidarity, and local campaigns throughout Dún Laoghaire.

He became involved in politics as a result of living in occupied Palestine in 1987/88, during the First Intifada, and has been involved in the struggle for Palestine solidarity since.

He recently brought a Bill to the Dáil calling for comprehensive economic, financial and trade sanctions against the state of Israel.
